The saying
“Reverberation from the desert”
originates from the Bible. In the Gospels, John is introduced as the preacher in the desert. Here he calls everyone to repent of their previous way of life and become a new person, for example in Isaiah:
Isaiah 40.3-40.5:
“The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:
And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.”
The Year: 1973.
The Place: Hamburg.
The Motto: Helping people.
Who: We were people of different faith communities.
The Topic: Germany’s word of the year: “Aufmüpfig” (rebellious, protesting against something). Supposed permissiveness and drug use of the wild seventies. We preached on a banana crate in front of Hamburg’s main railway station, helped drug addicts, we founded a church music band with drums.
Money: irrelevant.
Curious but uplifting; we were three people of different faiths, contrasting cultures, entirely different natures. Foundations for discord - but it grew into a dialogue full of harmony. A perception that I remember to this day.
The Year: 1996.
The Place: North Rhine-Westphalia, Thuringia and Berlin.
The Topic: Environment.
The Motto: Starting to develop and produce environmental technology equipment.
Money: Irrelevant.
At that time we were unbiased and believed in the goodness of those in charge.
The year: 2021.
The place: worldwide.
The Topic: Money, money, money ...
The motto: fear consumes intelligence, truth, body and soul. The centre of attention is the smart phone. Realities are mixed with untruths and passed off as truth.
The result: the destruction of our creation.
In the desert: A reverberation, it calls:
The Creator acts; we live in a time of countless kickbacks from our nature. Changing nature means preparing a way. To do this, we must share and allow ourselves to be touched by nature's suffering.
The fascination of nature is infinite. With good intentions, it regulates itself. Knowledge and enlightenment is the nucleus and the gateway out of man's self-inflicted present situation. A gateway that changes.
Philosophising is necessary, practical solutions are better. Solutions that are waiting to be implemented.
